Generally, its a defective product
I have gone through two of these (I exchanged my first one when it acted up right out of the box, but the replacement acted the same way, so I thought I would "experiment" with it to see if I was doing something incorrectly -- the very inadequate instruction card provided with the unit gave no insights. I was stupid, I should have returned it promptly at that time, but, well...we live and learn and its now unfortunately my loss). If you go to Adagio's site and read more reviews of this product, you will see my problems are not isolated instances; many consumers have blasted this product for its defective nature. The main problem is that the "buttons" that select the various functions don't work properly. They are electronic doo-dads (rather than actual buttons) that detect pressure or body temperature or something of that sort to trigger them. The only feedback you receive from the button is the LED light in them; there is no mechanical movement or 'click' to indicate they are...
Use it everyday

There were some problems with the buttons as times, not being able to select the "keep warm" function or change the temperature as I would like. But I could work with that. Then yesterday, it completely stopped working. Does not heat up water at ALL even though power is on and it thinks its working.
Just sent a claim to Adagio Teas about it (their return policy is 30 days) and saw MANY other consumers on their website with very similar claims. Most of whom had reponses that new kettles would be shipped to them. Don't know yet if this will work for me too.
Definitely seems to be defective, perhaps it is on backorder because they are trying to fix their issues.
I would say choose a different kettle.
Update:
They did replace the tea kettle without a hassle, and the...
Verified 1 year lifespan
We bought this a year ago. Stopped working earlier this week. Contacted Adagio and their customer service said to us one year was the expected life span. If I knew this was a product meant to be thrown away after a year I would have never bought it, much less paid$100 for it.
