Reasons for the 2 stars...
1) It's kinda noisy for a brand new A/C. The fan makes too much noise even on low. On high, the noise is unbearable. The max that we use is medium for the fan, otherwise we won't be able to sleep at night.
2) It's weak. They say it's good for a room up to 260 sqft. Our room is about 150 sqft. In 90 degrees weather, it takes 2 to 3 hours to cool down the room. If we are planning to go to bed at 12 midnight, we would need to start the A/C at 10pm, in order to get the temperature in the room to 78 degrees by midnight.
3) It is tough to install. Doesn't provide different options for different types of installations. Be prepared to drill through your window sill to install. If you cannot do that, then you're screwed.
4) Lack of features... you cannot tell the current fan speed, cannot tell the current room temperature.
The only reason I'm not giving it a 1 star is because it is still working after...
Very very, quiet and reliable, have 3 already, getting 4th
This is the quietest and most reliable, trouble free AC ever. Have three, along with central AC house, for zones that are warmer in my southern Florida house. This saves keeping the house overly cool, saves money and adds comfort. Consumer Report doesn't even rate LG, I have better rating data, my own experience with them. Fan at low speed is ultra quiet, gets louder a higher speeds, like all AC's, but never really LOUD loud. Cannot tell when compressor comes on or goes off, it is so smooth and quiet. If I did not have this personal experience, would not keep buying and using more. Easy to mount. Many commercial and industrial property uses LG for it's South Korean, proven quality. Tried other brands and found them very noisy, short life and more expensive. It seem that some negative reviews, could have been written by competitors. Finally, I am an especially critical evaluator of products. It they disappoint, they go, I can afford to get the best and have had some products...
Cools my studio apartment well
Ok, so I haven't purchased a ton of AC units, this is the only one so I don't have a lot to compare it too. What I like about this unit is that on a really super hot humid day when you haven't had the AC unit on, you can come home turn it on and feel pretty comfortable in about an hour. I feel like it saves a lot of energy versus having central air, because we live in such a small space. I bought it for only $99 on sale, and has adequately cooled my studio for over 5 years now. Cleaning the filter is tremendously easy, seriously, just pull off the front panel, pop it out, scrub with soap & water, dry, place back in.
My studio is 450 sq ft, so it mainly cools the front area which is about 250 sq ft, this is the space we sleep in, so we sleep comfortably.
As for loudness factor, I don't have anything to compare to, but I like a loud unit to block street noise. I live in NYC street level, so for my situation it couldn't be more perfect! And I love the remote, it...
