After reading numerous negative reviews of the newer style of ice cream makers where you put the bowls in the freezer, but don't use ice and rock salt, I decided to go with this one instead. The use of ice and rock salt is an older technique, but it seems to be more consistent and reliable.
I'm not the sort of person to make ice cream every day, but I've used the ice cream maker a couple of times and the performance has been consistent, even with long periods of time (i.e., months) between use.
The process to use this ice cream maker is somewhat involved, but I suspect that would be the case with any of the wooden-bucket-styled appliances. Since a review is supposed to help customers make purchase decisions, I'll list a few tips and instructions here. You do need to soak the bucket in water prior to use, to swell the boards so there's less leakage. This product worked great, we made strawberry ice-cream the day I received it. The parts were still in plastic the box was a little worn down but the item were well kept. It works great so far with no problems. Awesome buy!
